Why Do We Celebrate Labor Day?

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Labor Day Legislation

Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From these, a movement developed to secure state legislation.

Service set for Bernice Justine Graham

Bernice Justine Graham passed away in Ada, Oklahoma on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the age of 60 years. Justine was the daughter of Jimmy & Mary Ann (Ragsdale) Farmer, born on October 29, 1957, in Ada, Oklahoma.

Service Saturday for Don Hamilton

Don Hamilton was the first baby born in Ada, Ponatoc County, Oklahoma on January 1, 1930 to James Marion and Thelma Louise Hamilton. He attended Holdenville, Oklahoma High School and graduated in 1948. He was voted President of his Senior Class.

Highway 84 to be closed

Highway 84 between Dustin and Graham will be closing on September 4th 2018. The bridge over the North Canadian River will be torn out and replaced. Dustin/Graham buses will run earlier to accommodate the extra mileage but the bus stops will remain the same.

One killed in the Spaulding community

One person is dead and another in the hospital after a shooting in the Spaulding community Tuesday morning. Hughes County Sheriff Marcia Maxwell informed the Times Wednesday afternoon that the victim was Johnny Taylor of Spaulding.

Marguerite French Celebrates Her 102nd Birthday

Family and friends gathered together at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Clear-view gym (Community Center) to celebrate the 102ndbirthday of Marguerite French who was born August 18, 1916 in Clear-view, Oklahoma which has been her home for her entire life.
