Rudolph “Rudy” Wayne Troup, Jr., O.D., passed away on Nov. 18, 2025, at 81 years of age. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, coach and deeply committed to his faith. He was born on Nov. 5, 1944, in Kansas City, MO, and raised in Holdenville, OK. Rudy displayed leadership from a young age as his high school’s quarterback and carried that same team spirit, determination, and optimism with him throughout his life.

Spending most of his life in Shreveport, LA, Rudy dedicated 49 years to his thriving optometric private- practice earning the trust and loyalty of generations of patients. He also served as a past leader of the local soccer association (CABOSA), was a past president of the Optometric Association of Louisiana, and spent nine years serving on summer medical mission teams with Brookwood Baptist Church in Mexico and Honduras, providing compassionate eye care to underserved communities.

As a lifelong sports enthusiast and avid golfer, Rudy found joy both on the golf course and cheering on OU, his favorite team.

He was preceded in death by his father Rudolph Troup Sr., mother Helen Troup, and brother, Eddie Troup. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Carolyn Troup, bonus children Jeremy May (wife Christin, grandchildren Maze and Dallas). Jessica Harrison (husband Jason, grandchildren Nathan and Callie). His siblings, Terry Troup and Annette Overlease (husband Jerry); sister-Inlaw Pam Troup, brother-in-law Wayne Medlin (wife Debbie), sister-in-law Brenda Brown (husband Randy Brown). Rudy is further survived by his five children, whom he shared with his former wife, Margaret McCord Bell: Kymberly Wellons (husband Chris Lewis, grandchild Jackson), Matthew Troup (wife Nicole, grandchildren Ava and Sam), Laurie Troup, Daniel Troup (wife Shrutika, grandchild Kaia), William Troup (grandchild Jarod); nieces and nephews: Taylor Thomson (husband Matt), Turner Troup, Stacy Foley (husband Tim), Megan Overlease and many more.

At the end of his life, while battling dementia, the highlights of his week were attending Side-by-Side Christian Ministries at First United Methodist Church and Sunday services at Church of the Good Shepherd both in Long Beach, MS. Rudy’s legacy is one of dedication, kindness, laughter, a deep love for the Lord, his family, and community. Rudy’s Celebration of Life will be December 18, 2025, 10AM - 11AM at First United Methodist Church Long Beach.
